10:00 – 10:30 Refreshments & exhibitors
10:30 – 12:00 Workshop: "Training, Competencies and Career Progression in Toxicology"
Simon Cosbey, Sue Paterson, Steve George

This workshop will aim to prompt discussions for establishing best practice for professional training& development in forensic toxicology. It will give members access to information relating to different training routes within the profession, as well as providing a forum to discuss the gaps and opportunities in future training requirements (particularly relating to how competencies within various fields of toxicology are addressed).
The workshop will begin with Simon giving a short talk on his recollections of how T&D was done when he started out in toxicology. He will then go on to briefly outline some of the thoughts discussed in his recent paper on this topic, hopefully prompting a group wide discussion.
Steve George will give an overview of the NHS path for training, development and competencies, compared to the private secure. Sue Paterson will go on to discuss how the UKIAFT guidelines (which are being updated and published by the end of the year) can help to ensure toxicology work is carried out to a high standard.
The LTG have decided to hold this workshop due to popular demand from many in the profession who would like to provoke debate on the next steps that could be taken, so a good turn out would not only be beneficial to the meeting, but could result in future improvements for all in the profession
